The Top 5 Spring / Summer 2018 Fashion Trends

The spring is just around the corner, so we decided to revisit fashion trends from the Spring / Summer 2018 collections showcased on catwalks last year.

The trends cover many grounds from sheer fabrics up to industrial rubber.  Across the styles, it is nice to see that we are back again with feel-good fashion garments.  We put together a brief summary of out top 5 fashion trends for the Spring / Summer 2018 season:

Pastel fields

Following the steps of the omni-present dusty Millenial-pink, pastel hues remain strongly present.  One tone in particular has been reappearing on various catwalks – soft lavender.  This may be connected to the fact that Ultra Violet, even that much sharper, is Pantone’s colour of 2018.

Rubber is the name of the game!

Critics fell in love with Calvin Klein’s Kill-Bill-esque yellow pencil dress, which had a imprinted slogan “100% Nitrile / Synthetic Rubber” on it. Overall, their collection was heavily influenced by thriller movies heroines.  Other brands, such as Balenciaga or Acne Studio, also adopted this material in their accessories and outwear.

Playful cutting

Whether is is fringing, asymmetrically cut tops or ruffling, the more playful a garment is the better.  A movement and interesting angles seem to be the key in adding a pinch of character and fun to an outfit.

Uncovered

Effortlessly worn sheer fabric tops on naked skin may be out of the comfort zone for many women on day to day basis.  However the transparent trend goes mych deeper than this.  Chanel presented transparent boots, Valentino – bags, Anya Hindmarch- coats.  It is an era of oversharing after all.

Bags

Designers are not being afraid to cause a bit of a stir in the accessories department.  Firstly, the fanny pack is back!  The convenience accessory of the 80s have been revisited and beautiful reinvented in an elegant manner – see designs by Rocha, Givenchy or Kate Spade for example.  Secondly, this season you will not need one bag but two.  Catwalks confirmed that wearing multiple bags at the same time is very much in fashion, whether you will opt in for a shoulder bag and a tote bag or a mini plus a regular shoulder bag.

The Spring / Summer 2018 trends ma be covering various grounds, however the designers surely want women to get less conservative and move their boundaries a little with not being afraid to use their own voice.
